[...] The Los Santos Police Department (LSPD), in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in an organized task-force, conducted an extensive operation to dismantle a criminal group specializing in financial fraud. The group, linked to residents of what locals call the “Skid Rows,” defrauded a total of more than $1 million of dollars over the years through skimming, identity theft, and illegally obtaining government grants. On Tuesday morning, after more than two years of investigation, LSPD officers and FBI operations agents entered several apartments in the Mission Row neighborhood, where 11 people linked to the scheme were arrested. In addition, three people died as a consequence of these arrests in exchanges of gunfire with law enforcement. According to investigators, the 'head coordinator' of the scaminng scheme was said to be Raymond “335 Skoobie” Baptiste, a 28-year-old already known for his activities in the “Skids Row” community and carders. Carding and skimming - using sophisticated techniques, criminals seized credit card data, which they then sold on the black market or used to purchase luxury goods.
Grant fraud - members of the group submitted fraudulent applications for grants to the homeless and small businesses under federal and state aid programs.
Internet scams - they impersonated charities, extorting money from donors who thought they were supporting the local community.
Money laundering - funds gained from crimes were invested in cryptocurrencies and real estate on the outskirts of Los Santos.
